Lorain, Ohio launches down payment assistance of up to $14,900

Published · Homebuyer update · By the DPA Finder editorial team

The City of Lorain announced a new down payment assistance program for income-eligible buyers purchasing in the city.

The City of Lorain, Ohio announced on October 1, 2026 that its Down Payment Assistance Program is available to income-eligible homebuyers purchasing a home within the city.

Eligible applicants may receive up to $14,900. Household income may not exceed 80% of the area median income (AMI) based on household size; the city's example is a household of four with combined income at or below $84,000. Requirements may also include creditworthiness, homebuyer education and property eligibility.

The city says funding is limited and subject to availability, and meeting the income limit does not guarantee assistance. Contact the City of Lorain Building, Housing & Planning Department for applications and homebuyer education dates. Ohio buyers can also look at statewide help from the Ohio Housing Finance Agency.
